Mobile Infusion labs – Identifying potential locations for health care delivery in North Carolina

This is a class project where I used spatial analysis in ArcGIS Pro to identify potential locations for mobile infusion labs for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in North Carolina. I used the location-allocation analysis to identify the healthcare access gaps in North Carolina by locating IBD patients in the underserved area and to identify potential locations for mobile infusion labs to provide maximum healthcare coverage in the underserved areas. Findings from the study indicated that 15 (based on discharge data) to 25 (based on estimated population) mobile infusion labs can provide maximum health care coverage to the underserved populations located outside the 30-minute driving time of the hospitals. Results from the study reasserts the need to accurately quantify the burden of IBD at the geographic level and indicates the possibility of exploring the geographic diversity of the disease at the population level.
